Where Are They Now?

Saw a couple of familiar names over the past few days:

  • Bobby Madritsch was released by the Royals. I don't think he pitched one inning this year.
  • Justin Leone was DFA'd by the Padres to make room on the 40 man roster for David Wells.
Too bad - both of these guys were a lot of fun to watch. It just goes to show that there is no such thing as a sure thing in professional sports.

I thought Madritsch was on his way to bigger things when with the M's, Leone on the other hand, seemed to peak the one year he was called up. I read somewhere that Leone was asst coach with one of the Padres farm teams (player/coach)? Sexson's starting to hit, too little too late though if he brings his average up and hits a few HR's it could bode well for a future trade. Snelling hitless this evening (shock), that boy's gonna be a tremendous asset to the roster next year. Hard to imagine a full season of Snelling hustle. A young team with a tremendous upside. With some lights out pitching, this team will definitely challenge for a playoff spot next year. Now they even have some trade bait to land a SP or two. No place to put Reed in the outfield, and if LaHair continues to improve at his current rate, could be a homegrown first baseman playing the right side next year. Lots of reason for optimism I think!
