Dave On Ichiro!

Dave over at USS Mariner has written an outstanding article concerning Ichiro! today that you should really go read right now. It's always amazed me when fans blame Ichiro! for what's wrong with the ballclub. He's the most talented, elite player that the club has. He's not what's wrong with this team. Enjoy him now - because I'm afraid that 2007 will be the last season that we have the pleasure of seeing him perform in a Mariner uniform. *sigh*

I don't blame Ichiro for the things that are wrong with this team, he is a class act. I guess the only comment that I would make is since he will command top dollar, and it would seem that he is out of Seattle's market range, is it prudent to trade him at the deadline if the team is still hovering around .500, or just let him go at the end of the season for a couple of draft picks? I know that he is not a replaceable player, but with the other bad decisions (player wise) the FO has made, it's not realistic that the Mariners would keep him after this year, and I'm not sure I would trust them to trade him for equal value during the year. What a mess!
