Winning

One thing that must be said about the Seattle Mariners at this point in the season is that they are winning ballgames. After two come from behind wins at the expense of the hapless Orioles, one wonders if perhaps there has been a little too much pessimism in the blogosphere as of late. This may be a good time to just sit back and enjoy some baseball - let the standings take care of themselves for now. After all, the team is winning!

So many questions about this team. Maybe about baseball itself. Are there any real dominant teams around anymore? I know that there are people who analyze the games smallest entities, but I think no matter how you analyze it, the Mariners are playing better than anyone would have thought at the beginning of the season. Maybe there is some chemistry in the clubhouse! Maybe they are starting to believe (after several late game comebacks) that they can come back from any deficit, and always have a chance to win. Not comparing this team to the late 98 team, but lately they are refusing to lose. Lets see how they fare after this day break and heading into interleague play. Obviously beating the Angels in the Second half will be paramount to how the rest of the season plays out, but they aren't getting blown out in games, and they have picked up the slack when they've had people on the injured list.

WOW!!, a sweep of a contending team. I am finding it increasingly difficult to not root for this team. I cringe when the starters (pitching) takes the mound, but they are at least keeping the team in it. Late inning comebacks, they are things good teams do and bad teams don't. The pessimistic side of me says though, the wheels are coming off the wagon soon, so don't get too comfortable. Here's hoping the ride lasts the rest of the season.
