Pitchers And Catchers Report

It's music to a baseball fan's ears. After the dark, dreary days of Winter, the rites of Spring are finally about to begin. The annual cycle of renewal. Just in time.

Jose Vidro - DH?

Geoff Baker posted a nice article over at The Times today concerning, among other things, Jose Vidro. I agree completely that the debate concerning Vidro's worth as a DH has dropped off to almost nothing since the end of last season. It is time to rekindle that discussion, since offense will be a major area of concern this season.

Geoff delivered this gem in the above referenced article (speaking of Vidro):

"If he posts an .860 OPS over an entire season, the Vidro debate vanishes like the team's executives during a losing streak."

More Games In HD This Year

From The Times:

"• More than 150 Mariners games will be broadcast by FSN in high-definition this season, the most the network has ever done. FSN had previously averaged about 107 games, with local stations picking up another 30 or so. All of the team's televised games will be shown in HD either on FSN or as part of MLB's national package on Fox."

I really love HD programming!!

When Will It Be Done?

The Bedard/Jones+ trade has to be one of the weirdest deals I have ever seen. Geoff Baker posted this article over at The Times which provides a nice breakdown of what has gone on so far. Geoff also points out that the internet (and by extension bloggers) caught both teams off guard by the rapidity of the reporting and the subsequent firestorm of speculation that followed. Stay tuned - hopefully this deal will finally come to a conclusion soon.
