What Dave Said

The illustrious Dave Cameron over at USS Mariner wrote the piece this morning that I have been thinking about for the last couple of days - read it here. It's not too early to be making changes - and obviously this team needs some help when it comes to offense. Please Bill - do something before it's too late.

Edit: A nice article over at ESPN on Cammy as his suspension winds down. Worth a look.

Another One For The L Column

I was going to write a post two days ago concerning the lack of offense - Blogger wouldn't take it - and then Geoff Baker stole my thunder the following day! The joys of blogging. In any event, last night's game was a stinker. No way the M's should lose that game. I'm not blaming the pitching staff - the offense just didn't get the job done when they needed to. I don't think any one hitter is going to solve this problem - all of the guys who aren't hitting their weight need to get themselves together and start playing good baseball. Okay, rant over.

R.I.P. Airtime

Stepping away from the 2008 campaign for a moment to acknowledge the passing of John Marzano. Always a favorite in my house, Marzano was one of those hard-nosed, scrappy, old-fashioned ball players. Known for managing to get into the camera shot of any teammate who hit a homerun (hence the nickname "Airtime"), it was especially fun to watch Marzano after Ken Griffey Jr. would homer. Marzano would practically be sitting in Junior's lap - priceless. We'll miss you.

So Far, So Good

You know, I'm really hesitant to say this too loudly, but I'm pretty happy with the way the Mariners are playing ball right now. Despite several key injuries, the club seems to be hanging in there. I'm especially pleased with how Felix and Silva are pitching. All in all things are good - just don't say it too loudly!

Another Series Win

Despite all the gloom and doom that seems to be dominating the blogosphere this morning, the M's won another series over the weekend. And although the injury report is not making me feel real good - there doesn't appear to be anything yet that is season ending. I'm getting a bit concerned about Bedard, but so far nothing major. So in general I am okay with the club. Go M's!!

Edit: This interesting factoid from The Times:

"When Ichiro grounded into a double play Saturday, it was just the 35th time he had done so in his career in 18,805 plate appearances. But the interesting statistic was this: It marked the first time he had ever recorded a 3-6-1 (first to shortstop to pitcher) DP."

Road Trip Blues

I think it's fair to say that a week ago, most people were expecting better than a 2-5 roadtrip. Especially going into Baltimore and Tampa/St. Pete. Guess that's why they play the games. :)

And although the situation is not particularly encouraging at the moment, I also think that it may be a bit premature for much wailing and gnashing of teeth. For all the bad results, the M's have only been a good break or two away from winning most of the games that they have played. Having said that, I think the homestand beginning today is critical. Go M's!!

Two Observations

Awesome game down in Tampa yesterday - actually got to see the last couple innings when I got home. Two things that I wanted to comment on:

1. RRS is amazing.

2. Adrian Beltre plays the game with style. Full points to AB for selling that play at 3rd. Replay indicated that the play was a bit closer than the umpire thought, but AB definitely got the team out of a jam with his heads-up play. Well done!

Remember To Breathe

Another tough loss. The club is not playing very good ball right now. The good news is that the date is April 7th. Relax. It's extremely frustrating to witness a loss like yesterday's game in Baltimore, but that's how it shakes out sometimes. As long as the team wins more games like that than it loses all will be good. How about those Tigers? :)

Tough Loss

That was indeed a tough loss last night. An interesting game from a fan's standpoint, it appeared that the M's were on their way to another W until that Josh Hamilton character decided to ruin it. By the way, check out what Jeff had to say about Mr. Hamilton over at Lookout Landing - I find myself in complete agreement.

Edit: And it might have just gotten a lot tougher. Putz goes on the 15 day DL - read it here.
