Whither Now?

It's pretty clear to me that, short of some miraculous occurrence, the Mariners have played themselves into a position of non-competitiveness - or as Larry Stone said last year, removed any "Playoff relevancy" that they may once have had. So if this is indeed a 100 loss club, one wonders whether or not sweeping change is inevitable. As has been mentioned elsewhere, said change may come to pass once the revenue stream begins to dry up. I don't want to speak for the average fan, but this average fan has mostly lost interest. I haven't watched a game in more than a week. And I probably won't watch any games until the level of play improves significantly.

I'm Done

That's it. I'm not writing another word about the Mariners until they start playing decent baseball. So I may be done for the year. If that's the case, have a nice Summer. See you in Spring Training! :)

Mariners = Padres?

Saw this interesting piece by Scott Miller this morning that got me thinking about the disturbing similarities between the Padres and Mariners this season. It would seem that they share more than just the Peoria Sports Complex. One must also wonder why we haven't seen any stories about a "livid" Bill Bavasi. I'm just saying.

Two In A Row

A few points:

• 2 W's in a row
• Both were come from behind victories
• First W all season when scoring less than 4 runs (thanks Geoff Baker for that stat)
• Felix and Bedard both tossed good games

But then it struck me - it was against the Padres! Talk to me after this upcoming road trip - then I might have some reason to be optimistic.

Joh-san Is The Problem?

Not enough time for a big post here, but Dr. Detecto posits that Johjima may be the root cause of the M's poor defense. It's an interesting read - going to have to try and verify some of the numbers. But the good doctor does raise an interesting point - how would you know if you were wrong?

A Sad Day

I'm sad today. My team lost a heartbreaking game last night, and I don't really care. My team is falling so far behind the division leaders that they don't have a very realistic chance of getting back into the race, and I don't really care. It's a shame that it's come to this. I used to love baseball. After the last 5 years, I'm not so sure anymore. And that's sad.

Now It's As Bad As It Gets

Just About As Bad As It Gets

After yesterday's humiliating defeat in NYC, I'm rather reluctant to admit that I am a Mariner's fan today. That's about as bad a game as I can remember seeing - the hometown nine really stunk up the joint. I think that the crucial point in the 2008 campaign may be upon us - we may not have to wait until late August to find out if this team is going to compete. And quite frankly, if they continue to play like they played yesterday, the answer is going to be no.
