Something To Get Excited About

With all the disappointments that come along with being a fan of the Seattle Mariners, there are a few things to actually get excited about moving forward.  Mike Zunino is one of them, and Dave Cameron has something to say about him today.

Ichiro in New York

From the P.I. blog, Ichiro! has found his stride in New York.  Awesome.  Go Ichiro!

23-13

You read that right - the Mariners are 23-13 since the All Star Break.  Wow.

Dave Cameron provides some very valuable analysis today - great read!!

8/15/2012 - The Perfect King

I've been going to baseball games for a long time, but yesterday is the first time I have seen a perfect game in person.  It was a perfect day in Seattle - sunny and temps in the 80's - and King Felix dominated the Rays.  Here's a link to every out recorded - courtesy of Dave Cameron and MLBTV.

*Update - got to include this piece from Larry Stone, my favorite Seattle sports writer.  Be sure to check out the reaction from the Jackson Generals players when the perfecto was complete.  Very cool.

After The (non-waiver) Trade Deadline

Well, truth be told I'm:

  • Glad that Jason Vargas is still a Mariner
  • Pissed that Chone Figgins is still a Mariner
Hoping that the club will actually go out and do something to improve over the Winter.  In the meantime, take solace in the fact that the Mariners aren't that bad according to our friend Dave Cameron over at USS Mariner.

Smoak To Tacoma

In more news from Safeco Field, Justin Smoak has been optioned to Tacoma.  Good move, as he is  really looking lost at the plate - hopefully this will give him the chance to turn things around.

Monday Reading

Two very fine articles that are must-reads if you are a fan of the Seattle Mariners:

  • From the illustrious Larry Stone, a fine piece concerning Ichiro! and his upcoming contract extension.
  • From the urbane Dave Cameron, a plea for the demotion of Justin Smoak.

I've got to tell you, as a fan I'm getting more and more irritated with the organization for letting things go to shit.  Please spend some money and put a decent product on the field.  *sigh*

***Ichiro! traded to the Yankees - OMG!!***
Good luck Ichiro! Hope you get back to the playoffs with the Yanks.  Future HOF - many great memories of your time in Seattle.

Here are Dave's comments on the Ichiro! trade.  And Larry Stone provides 10 bullet points on the trade.

Time To Give Up On Smoak

Dave Cameron says it's time to give up on Justin Smoak.  I think it may be time to give up on the Mariners.

I'm a slacker

Yeah, I know, I haven't updated the blog in a while.  What can I say, I am a slacker!  A happy slacker since the Mariners did manage to win a series (yeah, I know it was the Twins).  I will say one thing, Kyle Seager is awesome!

Oh Olivo!

Larry Stone writes that it's time for the M's to start running Jaso and Montero out there on a very regular basis - citing Dave Cameron's piece at USS Mariner that describes in excruciating detail how bad Miguel Olivo has been.

1-0 - Yay!

Happy to report that the 2012 campaign is off to a good start!  M's managed to defeat A's in extra-innings in Tokyo early this morning.  Larry Stone has some great observations from the game over at the Times.  I'm afraid that we may be in for more of the same old tired offense again this year.

Larry Stone on the Japan Trip

I love Larry Stone.  We are lucky to have him writing about the Mariners.  Here's a piece in which he interviews Robert Whiting, who is probably my other most favorite baseball writer concerning the Mariners upcoming trip to Japan.  Check it!

Guti Hurt

Well it looks like Guti will start the season on the DL.  I can't help but think about how much bad luck he has had, and how nothing is ever certain in baseball.  Geoff Baker has the details this morning.

Larry Stone on Ichiro!

The awesome Larry Stone of the Seattle Times opines on Ichiro's efforts to reinvent himself for the 2012 campaign.  Spot on!!

More on Feeling the Pain

Larry Stone posted a great piece at the Times detailing the pain that has been Seattle Mariner baseball since 2003.  If you weren't feeling bad enough already, give this a read.  *sigh*

Shannon Drayer adds some more gloom to this already painful subject.

Feeling the Pain

Jerry Crasnick posted an article that is worth a read for Mariner fans.  Check it out.

Prince to Detroit

I'm disappointed - was hoping that when the dust settled Prince would come to Seattle.  Larry Stone has the skinny.  *sigh*

Pineda for Montero

So the Mariners have finally made a move - sending Michael Pineda and Jose Campos to the Yanks for Jesus Montero and Hector Noesi.  I'm pleased that the team has finally done something to help shore up the offense.  Hate to see Pineda go, but the team had to give up something for Montero.  Dave Cameron says the team isn't done yet, I am inclined to agree.  This deal could definitely be the precursor of some additional moves.

The Bear

The Bear is coming to Seattle.  Here's Dave Cameron's take on the Iwakuma signing. Now if Jack Z. could only sign a hitter.
